Wicked: The final note

So after two-ish weeks with the OCR of Wicked, I can fully say that this musical is wonderful (please excuse the pun :) ). The meanings behind it are so relevant, and it's witty and smart. All in one package.

My favorite song still is "Defying Gravity." It is an anthem that represents so many thoughts and ideals, it would be hard for me to find another song on the soundtrack to relate to better. "What is this Feeling?" became my favorite song of the week. It also has my favorite lyric "Loathing/There's a strange exhilaration/In such total detestation."

I also find myself drawn to "March of the Witch Hunters" because it's such a visual song. It's a connector song that joins "The Wizard of Oz" and "Wicked" in such a creative way. Although if you haven't seen the show, or read the lyrics/libretto of the missing song, it might be slightly confusing.

Overall, Wicked lives up to its hype. It's not a musical that has deep, provoking thoughts (sure there are good meanings behind everything, but when push comes to shove it doesn't delve into these ideas too far), but it does show "the other side of the story" and how actions can be misconstrued and twisted.

Speaking of the OCR, aside from the missing-song fiasco, I love the CD. It strings together some really long sequences into fantastic tracks. It also does a pretty good job at capturing Chenowith's humor. And Idina is freaking amazing.
